The Sailfish Slam Billfishing Tournament - Charleston, SC
Maritime Events, LLC is pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Sailfish Slam Billfishing Tournament Presented by The Charleston Angler will be held October 1 - 4, 2008. The Sailfish Slam is a citywide catch and release billfish competition headquartered at The City Marina in Downtown Charleston, SC. Anglers will convene at this facility on Wednesday, October 1 for the Captains’ Meeting followed by two out of three days of competition.
Scoring at the Sailfish Slam is different than a Governor’s Cup event in that all billfish are valued at 200 points. Catching and releasing a Sailfish, Blue Marlin and White Marlin within the duration of the fishing days will constitute a Sailfish Slam for a vessel. In the event of a Sailfish Slam, all billfish points for that vessel will become 300 points per billfish release, including the billfish releases prior to the Sailfish Slam.
A Sailfish Slam is different from a Grand Slam in that it allows the three billfish species to be caught on different days of the tournament. An example is a Blue and a Sail on Thursday, and a White on Friday equals 900 points with the Sailfish Slam. However a Blue and a Sail on Thursday, and two Sails on Friday equals 800 points since there is no White to complete the Slam.
